Just bought a 2013 sylvan 8522 lz le tritoon with rpt tubes and a mercury 150 fourstroke. came with full vynal floor with snap in carpet, seastar hydo steering, full underskin. I think i got a good deal (31500.00 before tax).
also bought a hoosier bunk trailer with tandem axles surege brakes, tritoon kit.

Really excited about this boat and hope i made a good choice. I looked at alot of boats. I really like the premier sunsation 220 as well but my wife didnt. the only bennington in our price range as a tritoon was the sl model and my wife didint like the layout as much as the sylvan. the berkshires and excursions were really nice but again we felt the layout of the sylvan was more to our liking.

Now its time to research props, anchors, gps/fishfinder, sharkhide, waxes adn protectants, cover (comes with a morring cover but going to get an oversized cover and make a pvc support for storing in the yard to keep the rain off and quick on and off. I will store it inside in the winter at the dealership).

any tips suggestions and opinions are greatly appreciated.

Congrats, That's a nice rig. You should consider applying a coat or two of SharkHide on the toons, it will keep them looking new for a few years.

Go to the Mercury web site and type in Engine tests and you will see dozens of tests with your motor, I have the Enertia 3 blade that they use and my motor runs fine. I think it's 15 1/8 x 14 if i'm not mistaken.
You will also want to put 303 protectant on your seats, there's nothing better.

I f you are boating on large lakes I would recommend the largest screen that you can afford for a GPS/ fishfinder, mine is the average size and it's to damn hard to really read, most brands come loaded with all the large lakes in the USA already stored on them.

Good luck.

Re: wohoo New Boat!

Rooster,
My wife wants the bbq pretty bad so looks like that might happen. We boat on Houghton Lake, Mi. The kids "informally" named the boat "fun bucket II". We have a 09 bayliner 175 (our first boat) that they named fun bucket.

Lake George,
Sharkhide, 303 protectant and 303 fabric gaurd are already on the list. I have got a couple good prop suggestions from Craigmack along with other great tips from him. He has the same boat. Thanks for the tip on the fishfinder screen. I am torn between 2 humminbird models the 386 ci combo (3.5 screen) and the 597 ci combo (5" screen). prices are 300 and 500 so a pretty big jump to the 597. I will also have to figure out how to run the transducer wire with the underskin.
I cant wait for the boat to get here and i can start all this stuff.

IIRC you can drill a small hole inside the helm and still get to it from the outer edge of the floor where the tube mounts. There's no underskinning there. Then run down the outside edge on the bottom side of the floor where it's bare wood. Take a look once you get the boat.

Craig, thanks for the tip on the transponder...that makes it easier than removing the skin.

Nice. I see they changed the seating design a bit and gave you three cup holders per location... I have two. The railing is a bit different too. We'll have to comapre notes once mine is back in the water. You'll love the openness of the design.

WOW!! Let me say that again WOW. If that is your first 'toon' boy are you in for some real fun. One thing I did that I think is unique, I bought a water pump made for a motorhome. 4.5 gallons per minute at 45 psi. Mounted it under the bench seat and put a hose bib in the back corner. Told my wife it was to wash the deck (I got the vinyl floors too) and general cleaning. Really, it is for the water fights. I don't have to reload my squirt gun!! I also installed a second battery to run the water pump, 2 high volume air pumps (for tubes and things), radio, CD player, and computers. Don't want to get stuck in a cove with a dead starting battery.

Enjoy the hell out of that Sylvan, one hell of a toon

Oh thats so nice. Like "Craig" said you can run that transducer wire down the outside, but I'd recommend crossing over to the other side somewhere and mounting on the back of the port tube, out of the way of the reboarding ladder. We've got the 386 Hummingbird depth / fish finder and it seems big enough for us. And like Steve said, a second battery w/ selector switch is nice to have. Good luck !!!

Craig, i think the changes to the '13 were 3 cup holders, the high fencing all around, the mood lighting (i think), and the 13 doenst have to chrome bimini like the 12, and a differnt radio.
Old Screwball, Thanks for the ideas and compliments! the 2nd battery is something i will have to research.
Rooster, I have decied on the humminbird 386ci combo. my dash already has the cut out specificly for the 385 model and i belive the 386 is the same size and can be order with a in dash mount. I agree about running the transducer port side being the best option. I will probably need an extension cable and could cross over the skin thru one of the hat channel braces. I will check it out when it gets here.
Im gonna order the sharkhide, 303, humminbird, cover, dock lines, etc all pretty soon so i can start working on the boat as soon as the weather breaks.

NNNNNIIIIIIICCCCCCEEEEEE ride!! I absolutely love that tri-toon boat you have there. When I am in better shape my next pontoon boat will be a tri-toon but that will be way down the road. Right now I will keep my 2 toon pontoon boat with 70 horse Johnson. I am looking forward to getting her out onto the water this year.

Re: wohoo New Boat!

I'm glad you went with the bigger motor, and your boat should be one that serves your needs now and in the future.

I ended up polishing my new toon last Fall, as I wanted to Sharkhide the toons. I found getting the black oxide out of the nooks, crannies and welds to be too much work. I'm just going to polish my boat from time to time with a D/A polisher and White Diamond aluminum polish.

You will want to get 303 fabric guard for your bimini top, and 303 protectant for the seats. My dealer swears by Mean Green to keep the seats clean.

You'll enjoy the fishfinder/depth finder, and need one if any time is spent in shallow water. (My lake is 65-100' deep thankfully.) It's a shame your dealer didn't get one factory installed.

The Mercury Enertia is the standard of the industry for pontoon boats. They come inch by inch, so you can dial in the engine perfect for your use. You'll be needing a 14" or 15" pitch, the chances are. Call customer service at your manufacturer to see if they can advise you on the right prop. The cheapest place to buy a prop is online at JacosMarine.com--about $445 if my memory serves me right.

If you have a tri hull and lifting strakes, you should be seeing 38 to 40 mph after the engine's broken in.

Re: wohoo New Boat!

We bought a Cobb cooker for our pontoon boat. It's made in South Aferica.. Go to cobbcooker.com... Very interesting. What I like is the unit doesn't burn you . Cooks food the way you really like it and no mess.

Re: wohoo New Boat!

Bamaman1, those were my thoughts exactly on the bigger motor. I defiently need the depthfinder. my lake is no more that 20 feet deep anywhere with alot of sandbars that are less than 2 feet deep. Also the reason I was told to go with an alum prop. But i have heard the enertia prop has a plastic hub that protects the shaft in impacts. So its all still up in the air.
The dealer would/will install the fishfinder but i think Id rather do it myself so i know the wires are run the right way and chafe areas protected.
I just ordered 2 jugs of sharkhide to do the toons, trailer, etc. order a gallon of 303 protectant, and a 32oz 303 fab guard. ordered my cover, dock lines, wax, and a bunch of little stuff i need. When i get my paycheck next week im gonna get the humminbird 386ci combo and in dash mounting kit. Then just need to get the boat here as soon as the weather breaks and start putting it all together.
