Won't fully back down to idle.

I was trying to adjust the idle a bit when I noticed that it backs down near, but not on to the idle screw. I can physically move the "round" plate so that it backs onto the idle screw, but I was thinking shouldn't this be spring loaded to get it to seat down?

Do I need to lube something, perhaps or is the idle/throttle only set back down as the remote control is set into a slower position?

The idle setting isn't spring loaded. You need to readjust the trottle cable so that the throttle lever is pushed against the idle screw without the force being excessive.

John, the throttle is not spring loaded, but relies totally on the throttle cable to pull the throttle arm all the way back to the idle stop screw. You need to adjust the black throttle cable adjustment knob to 'shorten' the cable until the arm reliably seats against the stop screw when the throttle/shift lever on the controller is moved back from both the forward and reverse positions. You'll find the adjustment knob where the cable is retained to the side of the motor looking back from where it is attached to the throttle arm. You would turn the knob upward or to shorten the amount of threads showing.

Note: The cable retainer acts like a spring loaded clip. You should be able to rotate the adjustment knob without loosening the center retaining screw.

Thanks Werner! I think the group headed through the slow-no-wake river channel will be happier with me. Not to mention less (and easier) shifting into and out of gear if I get it backed down just a little.

Then once that's settled, I can do the actual adjustment as it will be a consistent idle setting.

Thank to you, too, Jeff!
