I have a 27' Bayliner with a GM 350. I installed a new engine at the end of last season. It has a new carb, manifolds and risers. New electronic dis. New wires and plugs. The engine starts and idles great. As soon as I put it into gear it stalls. After the install she ran 3800-4000 rpms easy, now if I gun her at the dock its lucky to reach 3000. Where should I start looking?
Thnx

You might help out a bit by telling us more about your set-up.

Well for starters, GM motors are used by Volvo, OMC and Mercruiser. What do you have??

Re: Wont go

GM has been making 350's for a lot of Years, and there is a lot of difference between a 1973 model, and a 2006 model. Perhaps it could be EFI, or Carbed. THere were also many different drives used. Some of them have a habit of stalling the engine due to a bad shift cable. But without information as to what kind and what year, not much help.

The boat is a 1988. Its carbed. With a new GM/Volvo engine. When the old motar was removed all bolt ons were replaced with new.

Ahhhhh, a Volvo. That eliminates the shift cable as a problem.
You could have a fuel supply problem. Water, plugged pickup tube in the tank, plugged antisiphon valve. Possibly an air leak in the suction side of the fuel system between the tank and the engines fuel pump.

You might want to get a vacuum gauge and tee into the line from the fuel pump to the tank and see what you get.

http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=015221#000000
