My Merc 260 Inboard outboard won't hold a belt. For some reason it's chewing them up in about 2 days. What would cause this? I'm clueless!

Poor alignment of the pulleys and/or rusted pulleys will tear up a belt in no time...

Ditto. My Volvo does the same thing. You'll want to somehow replace that pulley if you can. I found mine to be severely rough, but keeping the belts tight went a long way toward belt life.

How can you check the alignment of the pulley's? It's kind of tight between the front of the engine and the wall! I'll check the pulley's for rust tonight!
