I am new to outboards so I am hoping that someone out there can give me some good advice. I bought a 1977 Galaxie Boat this winter. It has a 1977 Mercury straight 6 115 hp. This motor has a distributor on it. I had it out about 3 weeks ago on the lake for about an hour and it ran awesome, it restarted great. I tried to take it out this past weekend, and once I finally got it to start it sounded as if it was only firing on 4 cyls or so. Every once in a while the motor would shake and I am guessing this is when the other cyls would fire. I took it home and flushed the fuel out, changed plugs, checked fuel pump, and checked spark. Everything was good except for spark. All I did was just make the spark jump from the plug to ground. On all but one or two cyls was great, the other two it seemed was missing and when it would spark it was very weak.

I took the dis. cap off and the electrodes look cooroded, same as the rotor. I was told the only way to change the rotor was to replace the whole distributor.

My question is what do you think the problem is? What should I do now? Any help would be great. I am pretty good with cars, so hopefully this is something that I can tackle myself.

Thank you very much for any help
Brad
