won't idle

Hi. I have a 1971 evinrude, 125hp motor. the engine starts but after about 2 seconds it cuts off. it seems to me that the carburator is not holding gas. Can somebody please explain what might be going on. Thanks

Hi Jorge,<br />I'd agree it sounds like you don't have fuel reaching the combustion chambers. Question is, why not? If you pump the primer bulb continuously while starting/running will it continue to run? Best advice I can offer is start with the fuel pickup in your gas tank and check the fuel system all the way through the carbs. Tighten every connection, replace/clean any filters, etc. Let us know what you find.<br />Backlash
