wont reach top speed

i took my boat out today which has a 5.0 v8 and it wouldnt reach its top speed which is about 35 mph...it was only running 20mph tops....i dont know what could have gone wrong it was running fine just yesterday .... would putting in bad gas cause this ...cause i heard about bad gas being pumped at the marina where i get my gas from latley.... maybe spark plugs carburator ...please help !!!!!!!

yea i already checked that out ...but based on the amount of throttle im giving it the rpm where they are supposed to be but the boat just isnt moving as fast as it should be... any other suggestions ..idea???

If your RPMs are up where they should be you have 2 areas that can be at issue, prop hub and engine coupler.
