wont run under a load

I have a 79 115 inline 6 and have not been able to get it to get out of its own way.I took it in to one shop and he cleaned and adjusted the carbs and said it was good to go.Put it in the water and still no go.took it to another "mechanic" and was told it had no spark.He replaced the distributer and coil and said it was running.took it home,still no go.It has no power in gear but will wind up in nutruel.Done with the shops,hoping for some real advise.

I'm having a similar problem... not sure what it is yet, but I'm doing everything myself (so far).

Make sure you're getting good compression, and spark. If you take it to another mechanic make sure they have a dyno or sea trial their work! Anyone can simply replace parts... me included. I'm just glad I haven't paid $80-100 per hour also!

Pat, The motor must have even compression on all six cylinders of 100PSI or more. It also must have spark to all six cylinders. If it has these, it can be made to run correctly. Check compression with a gauge and spark using a timing light and post back.

I have a 140hp inline 6 doing the same damn thing.Crazy thing is that the time befor last it ran great now.......wont plain out ot save its life
