45 hp 2 cylinder 1970's chrysler. starts awesome except after tilting motor. wont start by priming or by spraying "quick start" Is the motor getting flooded? i thought it would be opposite if it is tiltings so the carbs would drain out opposed to in the motor. Any thoughts? after letting it sit in the down position for half hour or so it starts on the first crank, as soon as its tilted and lowered again it wont.

Re: wont start after tilting up

Gotta be flooding. Does it do it both when hot and cold?

Try this.

Unhook the gas line, run the engine out of fuel until it stalls. Tilt the engine, see if tilting with no fuel in the carbs causes the same no-start.

Next, get the motor running, shut it off. Tilt the motor, return to upright. Don't try to start yet. Drain the bowls with the bottom screws (capture the gas if possible with towels). Tighten screws back up, and try a restart. Have a fire extinguisher handy just in case :)

Betcha either one or both of your floats are bad, or the float needles / seats are messed up.

Not much fuel in bowls when you drain? Check your fuel pump.

Meant to ask... when you tilt it up, and drop the engine, still a no start if you re-prime with the fuel bulb? I'm still betting on flooded, but I'm going to put a side bet on the fuel pump.
