It's my own fault but after winterizing my '76 85hp Johnson motor, I took it out one more time in December because it was warm enough to and forgot to run the gas out, pull plugs etc.. Now it's having difficulty starting go figure. After spraying WD40 in the air intake it started but putterred out almost immediately. I'm going to try spraying Carb Cleaner/De"gunk"er on the carbs best I can without taking them off. If that doesn't solve the issue any other ideas?

Oh and it doesn't appear any gas lines are clogged and I replaced the plugs. (but I did sorta add 4 gallons of gas to the 2 gallons of gas that were still in the gas tank from last December, probably mistake #2 but I thought what the heck possibly leading to my failure).

Thanks gents

Pull the float bowl plugs out of carbs, pump the primer bulb and see what you get.

I did that but while priming the bulb I couldn't really see the carbs too well but it seemed like some gas/carb cleaner was draining out it.

After putting that back and spraying the carb cleaner all in there I tried starting the motor. It acted like it was starting and then would backfire on me and stop.. burning the carb cleaner possibly? I'm not too worried because after a few more attempts it started and I was able to keep it running and then every time I went to start it up after that it cranked just fine!

Thanks for the help
