won't start help please

have less then 10 hours on rebuilt 4.3 mercruiser on a 185fs monterey 2008....took her out for the first time and she ran better then the original motor did ran it for about 4.5 hours, changed leg oil and engine oil and filter.On my daughters b-day we took her out for the 2nd time this year and all was well till we stopped for lunch...after 20mins no start,everything else worked so it wasnt the batt...after wiggling shifter and cables and linkage somehow i was able to get her going after about 20 minutes....still dont know how i got her started i suck at electical problems....have some concept mechanically though...so now she's sitting in my driveway ,after paying 7000 for the rebuild,and wondering if anyone has any suggestions

What did it do exactly, crank but not start or starter would not crank the engine?

no crank at all but power to everything...trim,radio,lights

radio and lights dont need much to get them moving but a starter needs a good battery and good clean grounds (earths 4 british).is the solenoid clicking at all?
could try jumping the two large terminals on solenoid to c if it will crank.
7000 was a lot 4 a rebuild!
a multimeter will be of great value and will last a long time.a cheaper one should be in your boats grab bag for fault finding/breakdowns.
