Wont start

Here is my problem. Its intermittent so I cant replicate the problem. When I go to start my motor, when the key is in the start position nothing happens with the starter but the tach pegs below 0 and the livewell pump turns on. Tach goes back to normal and livewell pump stops when key is back in run position. When I unplug the red plug on the side of the motor and jump the solonoid, it will start but just before the starter engages, I can hear the livewell pump turn on. :0 I'm buffalo'd as to the cause. I replaced the key switch last year but the problem continued. Could it be the starter soloniod? As soon as I got home, it started fine. Please help. I hope this is in the right forum, if not will a mod move it. Thanks, Rudy.

Re: Wont start

It is probably easier to trace the wiring for the livewell pump. The livewell and ignition should NOT be even remotely related.

You don't say where your ignition switch is but if it is in the dash, the livewell pump wire is probably touching it.

Re: Wont start

Ignition switch is in the remote control. Thats what got me buffalo'd, the livewell is on a seperate circuit. Somehow when the ignition switch is in the start position, 12v is going to the dash. It dosent happen all the time. I cant see any wires that are touching. (scratching my head)
