Good morning iboats! I have a 1989 120 tohatsu and im having a issue with the motor to stay running. If i keep priming the bulb then it will stay running fine, so i took a look at the fuel pump and i noticed one of the diaphrams had a tear in it. Just wondering if im on the right track, also i replaced all fuel lines.

Re: wont stay running

If I were you, I'd buy the pump repair kit (which I assume contains the diaphragm and o-rings) and repair the fuel pump before trying anything else. Seems reasonable to think that you would not get any fuel to the carb with a torn diaphragm, and that pumping the bulb would act as a replacement for the lack of pump pressure, at least until you stopped pumping. If it is anything like my Honda 8 (though I assume a 120 is much more complex), it is fairly easy to replace.

Replace both diaphragms & pump body gaskets, clean carbs & all filters as well. Generally don't need to replace the whole pump, just inside working parts.
