getting ready to install new wood transomgetting on 16 ft ss got all the small pitting glazed over with JB weld marine. All bare aluminum inside and out primed with self etching primer and 2 coats of Rustoleum enamel with harder. My question is the previous owner had a piece of 1/2 inch probably exterior grade wood on on outside of transom between motor and aluminum I guess to keep motor from rubbing aluminum should I just add a new piece treated the same as the transom wood or would a piece of 1/2 inch Teflon or nylon such as a cutting board work better? Just not sure how well 4200 would bout to the Teflon surface as I was planing on sealing perimeter with 4200. Any help would be deeply appreciated as I want to splash this boat before snowfall ! Can't seem to a lot done with 90 plus degree days here in Pa. And working out in the sun on an aluminum boat after 14+ hour days of work aren't easy on my old body. However I truely dig this boat! Thanks.

wouldn't use teflon, its about 10X the cost of what you would need. a piece of UV stable UHMW is about as inexpensive as you can get. however the 4200 wont stick to it either.

I personally would simply use wood. Mahogany or Teak myself, however a nice piece of white oak would work too.

I think I can get the Teflon for free. But is it truely overkill.

teflon is too soft, its compression strength is next to nothing. in this case, free isnt better.
