wood padding under armrests rotting-?replaceable?

Our mid 80's arrowglass ski boat needs the padding replaced around the boat motor cover and under the front cushions. It seems like they were filled with some type of chipped wood. Is there a company that sells replacement pads or what can we do about this? We're as new as new gets when it comes to boating. This is my dad's boat that we use with our kids. <br /><br />Thanks for any assistance or leads.

welcome to the site!<br /><br />wood padding? doesn't sound too comfy to me<br /><br />do you mean the plywood under the padding? an upholstery shop is the easiest if you wanna spend the $. otherwise, it's not too difficult to carefully remove the old vinyl (if its still good) and replace the wood.<br /><br />you might want to consider waterproofing your new plywood. sounds like the original plywood wasn't. i epoxied some replacements i made for my boat.<br /><br />if the old plywood isn't complete dust, you might be able to use it as a template for the new piece.<br /><br />and, be sure to use stainless staples to put it all back together so your work doesn't rust.<br /><br />good luck

The vinyl should be able to provide you with a template of the plywood. The staples can be removed with care and then reattached with a staple gun. I did this to my old Celebrity for the side panels and they came out great. What was there looked more like mulch than plywood. Funny thing is you would never know that there was no backing as the padding held its form.

If it is the plywood backing, after you cut it out make sure to seal it. Some people use polyurethene, I use marine spar varnish.<br /><br />A couple of coats and the wood should last a really long time.
