Hello everyone,
First of all, I am very impressed with this message board and with the degree of knowledge everybody has on the topic, specially on epoxy resin coating which is my field of interest at the moment.

A gentlemen who works in Yacht did my wood stairs five years ago, in despite of our care it has build up a bit amount of scratches and has become my next improvement project. Here are the pictures to illustrate:

As you can see (by the size of the blue tape) the scratches on the resin (5 hands = very thin) are not bigger than 1/2 of inch wide and superficial (1/16 inch ??). However, I would like to use a very small portion of filler to perfectly cover any scratch that got all the way to the wood.

QUESTION:
1) What could be the best and basic resins I should use for coating and Resin filler?
2) What would be the best way to sand them and what type of sand grain paper should I Use?
3) Finally, what should I use to polish the complete stairs as soon as my work is done, to reestablish the luster and shine of the entire stairs?

Once again thanks for your time and help on this one!
PDyer.

Your best bet is to find the guy that did it the first time and either have him do it, or use the same product(s) he did. Otherwise the chance of it matching the existing finish is slim to none.

Wow, is was not the type of reply I expected from this Message board, but I thank you for your suggestions :- )

HOWEVER, the scratches are very small, so I am sure ANY RIGHT clear coat of resin will match perfectly. Please note that I am not asking about the wood stain, I am only reffering to the resin coat and maybe a filler.

So here are my questions:
1) What could be the best and basic resins I should use for coating and Resin filler?
2) What would be the best way to sand them and what type of sand grain paper should I Use?
3) Finally, what should I use to polish the complete stairs as soon as my work is done, to reestablish the luster and shine of the entire stairs?

You mentioned epoxy, but do you know if the finish is epoxy? It could be some other product and that's the problem, and even if you know what type of product it is, different brands may give a totally different look, or may not be compatible.

If you know what type and brand it is, then just clean the sctratch very well and use a very fine brush or toothpick and fill it up. Sand it with fine sandpaper (600 grit), then use finer grit until you can buff it out and not see any scratches.
