Re: wood rot ,please explain.
There is wet and dry rot. Wet rot comes from being wet - and turns an otherwise strong piece of wood into mush. Plywood is bad for this as plywood is made up of layers of wood and when water gets in between, causes it to delaminate so that it can break down the layers individually.

Dry rot is simply, from what I understand, wood that has not been treated and has been wet at one time and now has all types of pits and fisures in it.

Dry rot wood can be repaired easily with a dry rot epoxy formula that soaks inside all the pores etc to form something that is much stronger than wood to begin with, but is expensive if you have a large area to do. Not to mention you have to ask yourself why did it get wet in the first place. Usually dry rot occurs from wood that hasn't been protected enough with water repellent coatings, which you NEVER want to use on a boat anyway - unless it will be totally exposed wood. Such as for seating, tables etc.
Epoxy and polyester do not bind to water treated wood.

S
