The woodruff key just doesn't want to budge, I have tried the chisel trick, nothing, can't get a good grip with pliers either, any other things I can do?
i feel your frustration, i just did my waterpumps and one of those buggers just didnt want to move, i found that a dull chisel worked the best, the one that i couldnt get, i ended up carefully drilling it in the center then rapping it with a punch-this did the trick-.
I would use heat last, a thin dulled chiesel works as does carefully drilling on it, a good sharp chisel just slices the edges off and makes it harder.
not that I am against heat mind you but in the hands of the untrained you may do more damage than good.
once you get the key headed down it will roll out the bottom.
Got it off finally with rodbolts hint, but I had to really slam on it with the hammer, not my best moment of mechanical time but it was the only way- I also had some PB Blaster that was in there for about an hour so maybe that had somehthing to do with it, because I tried the chisel and hammer trick already and it didn't budge-
Hi folks there is a sure fire way of removing seized woodruff keys or even straight keys for that matter.
just get a medium sized pair of electrical side cutters and grip the frozen key as close to the shaft as possible and using the the cutters hinge as a fulcrum push down the key will pop out and all you have to do is deburr 2 little indents made by the cutter jaws

Hope this is useful Pinno
pinno, a good trick but not on the V yamahas water pump key.
best thing is a dull chisel and drive the key down and it will roll out. its a very tight fit.
