Is it possible that a worn out/damaged prop can cause under rpm conditions? In my other threads I have restored a 88 glasstream cuddy with a reman from rapidomarine and have never gotten the new engine to get the boat out of the water on plane... (2800rpm max)The boat has gone home to Indy but I still have the 'it beat me' nightmares...
Cheers,

What engine, what outdrive, what prop, what diameter and pitch? Just because you have a remanufactured engine does not mean is developing full power. After installation, timing and carb adjustments are required. If this was a short block, whoever installed the heads may not have adjusted the valves properly. So before blaming the prop, make sure the engine is up too snuff.

Re: Worn out/damaged prop symptoms?

I know this is an ooooold post. I'm looking for a re-man 4.3 for my '93 Fisher 19 I/O so I read that novel about your purchase from Rapido and all your trials and tribulations. I commend your for your dogged stick-to-itiveness. Now I see this post. Reminds of the time I got the bow line stuck in the prop of my old boat ( 800hp Blown Big Block Warlock Cat....lot's of power..tons more than a 4.3 obviously..) I realized I had something wrong 'coz my rpm's were down ( not sure how much exactly, just felt it and shut it down). Long story short, check your outdrive. Could be something causing a huge amount of drag. That could 'splain the pinging, too. Ever heard a car ping going up a hill?
