Hi <br /><br />Took delivery of my new fishing boat yesterday complete with a year 2000 90v4 Evinrude Ficht<br />very happy!<br /><br />But I have just discovered that the previous owner has been using a non famous brand cheapo two stroke oil,i have managed to find out that the origininal owner before him used the reccomended!<br /><br />Boat has done approx 50 hrs on this cheap oil!<br /><br />Can i expect damage?<br />And what remedial works are reccomended please?<br />One last thing what oil should I be using (UK marketed)?<br /><br />Thanks guys<br />Rob

What oil did he use. Was it Tc-w3 oil if so it should be fine.

Get an Owner's Manual, Rob. Follow the requirements that OMC put in there.<br /><br />Direct injected engines have different requirements than carbed engines. The fuel does not circulate through the crankcase, so the oil pumped in there has to get to all lubed surfaces on its own.<br /><br />I believe that OMC called for oil specific to DI engines. Some failures of FICHT V6 engines in that period were blamed on using "regular" TC-W3 oil rather than the recommended oil, but I don't think that included any V4s.<br /><br />There has probably been no damage, but that doesn't mean there might not be in the future. Stick with OMC recommendations.<br /><br />BTW, if they say TC-W3 is okay, that means any TC-W3 rated oil. Brand and price do not change the spec.

Hi Again,<br /><br />Just dicovered he was using quicksilver which i beleive is tc-w3 rated and guess this will be ok as you guys kindly pointed out,also found a label on the side of the engine stating use only tc-w3 so all is sorted me thinks!<br /><br />Thanks<br />again<br />Rob

Just a little FYI Rob.....<br /><br />The original FICHT Ram Injection oil was replaced by XD-50, a BRP product. The XD-50 is a synthetic blend oil. I use it in my 84' 50hp Johnny. Pretty decent oil.....

I wouldn't call Quicksilver a "non-famous" brand. Nor would I call it a "cheapo" brand. It is made by Mercury (or for mercury, whatever....) But I would still use the XD-50, if it were me.
