Worth the work to sell my livewell???

Hey everybody,

I've had my new boat out a couple of times now and love it. However I am considering selling the livewell and all components. I honestly dont think I will ever find a use for the livewell as I dont competition fish or even take the sport that seriously really. I just like to go out on the weekends and throw a worm out there to see if I catch anything and have fun on the water.

My question is, to sell the tank itself would be quite simple however I am considering taking the deck up, and removing the pump, hoses etc. to sell the whole assembly or "package". What do you think, would it be worth the trouble/work and how much do you think I could get for all of it? It's all fairly new and runs and operates flawlessly.

If it is a new boat, I would advise not to go ripping it appart. You never know when you are going to need a live well. Even if it is just to let the fish sit in it while you get your camera ready for a picture.

My boat has two wells. I use one as a cooler with drinks in it and I do use the other for fish. I would personally like to get the bow well out and use the space for storage, but I am not about to rip up my deck.

My old boat had two wells as well. I used the one to store my bumpers and bailing bucket. Kept them out of the way and left storage for other things that need to stay dry.

I agree. You mentioned your 'new' boat. I'm assuming new to you. Is this your first boat?

The reason I say that is that if its your first boat, leave it as is. You'll find over the next year or so that you wish it had 'this' and didn't have 'that' or a bigger motor, or different seats, or you could ......etc, etc

You may want to sell and upgrade or downgrade your boat, and the next buyer may wish the livewell was in it. Or you may simply find a need for it.

I guess my advice is to sleep on it for a season, and then find out if you really don't have a need for it. Worst case, its a storage locker or expensive drink cooler.

I would never consider removing a live well, I actually wish mine had a second one. When not fishing, use the well for storage. The amount you gain buy selling it won't come close to the amount of value it will detract from the boat from a potential buyer down the road.

With no information on what boat this is, or the live well setup, I would venture to say the components are almost worthless. Switches, pumps and hoses don't cost much when new and have little value on the used market, plus the live well itself may not be easily removed. You will spend a great deal of time to get almost nowhere. I've used the live well in my boat probably twice in seven years, but the space isn't wasted, I use it for storage. I did remove the fuse for the pump though, I didn't want to turn the pump on by mistake and flood the space when it's full of other stuff.

Forgive me for the confusion. It is a new boat only to me. I beleive it was built in 1990 and re-riveted in 2000. (I should have a picture in my profile) The way the boat is laid out is it has a bench in the front and rear, a storage comartment in the middle to one side and the livewell on the opposite side. I was thinking of removing the live well which would significantly increase my deck space and then cutting a portion out of one of the benches to creat another storage compartment.

I see what you mean about the value of the boat though. I suppose having a working livewell in it makes her worth alot more.
