Today, I launched at 0600 and trolled until 1130. When it was time to go back to the dock, I opened up to WOT and after 10-15 seconds, the rpms dropped off, boat lost plane but did not quit. Backed throttle off to idle. After about 10 seconds (scratching my head at what just happened) I took the throttle back up to WOT and after another 10-15 seconds, same thing and I backed the throttle off to idle (did not quit). Took back up to WOT and ran all the way back to the dock (approximately 8 minutes) without any further problems. I even went from idle to WOT several times to try and duplicate the anomaly. Compression good and recently de-carbed (OMC Engine Tuner)and plug change (NGK..could not find correct Champion). Could this be attributed to the long troll and i am just being paranoid, or am I looking at something different??? Your thoughts and experience please. Searched the forum for this identical problem and could not find one.

chapser,

I would bet that you had a plug breaking down.

You may still have some crud from the decarb. working through.

DJohns,

Plug breaking down??? What does this mean? There was some crud on the plug that got blown off or you think the plug is defective/failing.
Thanks for helping me on your free time!!!

After nearly 2 seasons of this nuisance problem (occurring once or twice a trip), I finally found the problem.

As described in the initial problem below, the problem started and continued with the engine . intermittently “bogging” when taking off out of the hole. This year, the problem further complicated when the engine would not start, tach inop, fuel inop and the aft trim button would work but the throttle trim button would not (all intermittent besides the aft trim which would always work).

After some missed trips and paranoia of being dead in the water, I scanned for hours at the schematic in the back of the manual and knew I needed to located the place where three purple wires came together as this was the ONLY place where all these systems were in common. Found the main wire harness that was fed through conduit in the floor and pulled the slack out enough to get a look at the majority of the harness and behold … a splice group of three purple wires was found and immediately broke when I touched them (totally corroded). Note that the conduit was filled with nasty water and sludge, which didn’t help matters. ALL splices where replaced with waterproof splices and after over 50 hours since fixing this, the boat has run like a champ.

I hope this can help someone with a similar problem.
