WOT Issues

I just got my boat out of the shop...I thought I fried my engine, but the problem was that the starter was not shimmed correctly. They corrected that issue and checked the outdrive and water system out.

Everything looked good, water moving like it should (small leak coming out of thermostat housing), engine ran at good temp.

We took it out to the bay and ran it all day...ran great. Even got stabbed by a catfish..no flesh eating bacteria so far (whew!) On the way back, the belt on the water circulation pump came apart. There was a small drip of water coming from the thermostat housing that kept dripping on the belt and caused it to keep slipping. I imagine the belt got hot a snapped. Putted home relying only on the impeller to push water through. Did just fine at low low speed.

Only thing I noticed is that the boat does not reach WOT. I tried a couple of times and it began to backfire. I got it up to about 15 knots but it usually runs about 20-25 knots. What could be causing this? Maybe just some simple adjustments to the carb and throttle cable? Something else?

I already looked through the sticky about WOT problems..none of them sound like my problem.

Any suggestions?

Re: WOT Issues

Well what are you running, year-make-model. I'd still go through the WOT list.
