How hard is it to get to and clean the high speed orphices. I took it to the lake yesterday and it idled perfectly and ran good at slow speed. Gave her the gas and it bogged down, couldn't get on plane. I did get on plane at one time but quickly started sputtery again, so I backed it off and ran good at slow speeds. Im gonna put some sea foam in the tank today. If that don't work, I would like to clean the High speed orphices. Any ideas !!

Get three carb kits, take them apart, and clean them entirely. If there'd gunk in the orifices, there's gunk elswewhere waiting to flake off and clog the orifices all over again.

Can I get these kits at Napa or a Lawnmower dealer without having to pay high money at a Marina? Model# 55973A Ser# J05689
How much for these carb kits.

I have a 69 55hp Johnson and it did the same thing to me last weekend, the first day I took it out after the winter months.

The fuel line "pump" from the engine to the gas can was squeezed tight, like it wasn't getting proper suction.

The next day I just reversed the line and put in fresh mixture of gas and oil and it runs great now.

Check the simple things. Make sure you are getting spark in all cyliders, Fresh gas, good plugs ect. Doesnt hurt to rebuild the carbs. I had a pinched wire after a rebuild of the left head and a wire had a tiny crack in it causing one cylinder to drop out. Couldnt tell at idle but had no power and bogged when trying to power up.

Johnson1989, I did notice a crack in the vacuum switch. I mean the plastic Diapragm on the vacuum switch. Do you suppose that could be some of my problem?
