WOT to Idle stalls?

What could cause stalling from WOT to idle. I can move accross the water at full throttle with no issue but when I bring it back to idle after slowing down it will stall out. If I restart it fires right back up. Just had carbs rebuilt, timing checked and link and sync completed but it still happens as before. I did notice that my Fuel Ball gets a little soft while it is running but not empty or flat. This is a 91 Evinrude 150xp. This is a model with a VRO2 pump and wondering if the fuel side is bad?

Couple things I know of that cause that...idle speed set too low, and leaky carb float valves.

When you stop after a full throttle run, does your backwash submerge the exhaust relief ports on the back of the motor?

I'm sure there's other possibilities I don't know about.

While running the primer bulb is just another section of hose, you'll feel some pressure there but not like when it's stopped. If you never have to pump it back up after the first start of the morning then it's good. Besides which, if the pump wasn't keeping the carb bowls full, it'd misfire at high speed.

My exhaust is thru the prop? It always seems that when stopping it was the water backwash that was causing this but if I back down on the throttle really slow and keep it a little above idle till all calms down I could keep it running.

Exhaust is through the prop, but you know those two holes on the backside of the motor just below the powerhead? exhaust relief ports, they relieve some of the backpressure on the exhaust, to facilitate starting and idling.

at speed there's no backpressure on the exhaust, till you slow down.
