where would i look to find the recomended rpm at wot on a 1985 4cyl mercruiser 140 hp alpha 1 outdrive

The OEM service manual for your engine would be the best place to look. It says 4200 to 4600 rpm.

Ebay is one place they show up at. Your local Merc dealer can order you one.
You can even order one from the Merc site........ once you find where and if you have a serial number for your engine.
You really need to find out what your SN is, an 85 Merc 140 uses manual #10, while an 84 uses manual number 3.
And just because you have an 85 boat, doesn't mean you have an 85 engine and drive.
