Would a counter rotating prop solve my new lower unit issue?

I am posting in this forum because I mentioned this problem in a engine forum. The issue, I had a lower unit replaced and it came with a different prop which they changed back to my original prop because it was a SS prop and now forward is backwards and backwards is forward on my throttle control. I was previously told that it is the wrong lower unit. My question is if I check the prop spin in forward and it is counterclockwise, then reverse is clockwise, would a counterclockwise prop solve my problem? I'm reaching for a easy fix. It is a 1977 140 Johnson OB. Please help! Thanks.

What brand? I/O or outboard? Year?
If the gearcase is indeed a counter rotating unit a Left a hand prop will work.

I think that you need to take it back to "them" and ask them how they managed to accomplish this. I am not aware of a Johnson 140 being available in a counter rotating lower unit(but I'm not a Johnson expert).

It sounds like "they" somehow managed to connect the shift mechanism backwards. The prop should turn to the right(clockwise)in forward gear.

U really need to take it to the shop that messed up. Trying to run the boat with the controls reversed AND the wrong lower only will. Lead to disaster

Thanks all but I think I got screwed, the shop was a bait shop that worked on boats. The word of mouth issue got me. The mechanic quit and cant find the owner. My insurance company gave them the go ahead and now there (ins co.) telling me it's a warranty issue!

before everyone starts guessing about this, what direction did the prop that came on it turn? was it counter rotation? and I hope you still have that aluminum prop they first gave it to you with.

It sounds like "they" somehow managed to connect the shift mechanism backwards. The prop should turn to the right(clockwise)in forward gear.

as I understood it, all motors are available in counter rotation lower units for use in dual motor applications and its only the powerheads that are fixed for one direction rotation only.

it sounds very feasible they got a used lower unit and did not know it was counter rotation until it was too late or just did not care.

There were no counter rotating outboards in 1977

Sounds like they put the wrong lower unit on it. Shift patterns are different.
