Hi,
I've seen a trim/tilt unit for a 'mid nineties' 70,75,90,V4 and V6 on eBay (here in the UK).
Would it fit my 1989 manual tilt 40hp twin ?
In the clymer manual it shows three types of trim tilt, with a different one on the 40 and the 75, but are they physically the same size, and interchangeable as a complete unit ?
If not, and I have to carry on with manual tilt gas-assist, how much effort should be needed to pull the motor up ? It seems like a lot at the moment, and I'm wondering if the ram needs renewing...
thanks.

Paul

I don't think it will fit. If the gas assist shock is broken, usually the only repair is a new one. And they are expensive!! It takes a pretty good pull to raise the motor by hand. You may want to consider one of these to help you tilt the motor. They do work.. You can get them at Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas(Motor Tilter) and others. I don't know if they will ship to you or not. I-boats may have them ,too.

EDIT: I-boats does have them and I believe they will ship to you:

Motor Lifter

Thanks for the help Rick.
Quite a clever and simple solution to the problem.
