Would it be a total FAIL if I laid up a small strip of fiberglass over 3m 5200? I found a scrape in one of the side runners on the hull that was letting in a small amount of water, I'd need to pump it out every 1/2 hour or so. Anyway, the scrape is about 5" long & 1/4" wide (not very big), I used 3M 5200 & it took care of the leak, problem is whenever I pull the boat out of the water it rubs some of the 5200 off on the bunk & I need to dab some more on there for the next outing. Do I need to remove the 5200 if I want to glass over the scrape or can I just glass over it? I know the proper way is to clean the surface completely, but for such a small repair I was hoping to get away with just a quick cover over.

Remove it and go to ace hardware and get some of this...Note: This is and epoxy product so...If you eventually want to repair this with Gelcoat then don't use this. If the repair is really small, go to Bass Pro or West Marine or somewhere similar and get a Gelcoat repair kit, mix up some gelcoat paste, remove the 5200, wash it down with acetone really well and fill it with the gelcoat paste. Pics would really help us to help guide you to the proper repair.
