I am in the process of converting my 84 Islander to an outboard and am almost at the stage to get the bracket made but am wondering what some ways are to seal the old I/0 hole. I have a new transom put in that does not have the hole in it but am curious about the hole still in the aluminum. I was thinking of riveting a piece of aluminum smothered with 5200 over the hole on the outside and just make it small enough so that it fits inside the outboard bracket. I am not sure if I should put a piece on the inside as well because the transom is very tight sliding in as it is. Was thinking of welding in a patch or plug but was nervous about warping (and I already have the transom painted). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!!
I can post pics if needed when I get home.
I saw on here someone put a outboard bracket over the keyhole without filling it in and just smothered 5200 on the bracket flanges. Not sure on how it turned out though.
