When I purchased my glatron last season it had some barnacle growth, I scraped it all off but now there is white circular residue from where they were, its only on the bottom quarter of boat and on transom, I searched the forum and didnt find any info on barnacle removal techniques, but I was wondering if I use my palm sander and say maybe 220? Grit paper, would yall think that would work without damaging the paint much? The paint looks like crap anyways but was tentatively planning on prepping all of the hull and spraying it with some sort of sealer, boats in black in color and not original to the boat if it matters... Just asking if im headed down the right path or if I should go higher grit and work backdown in number grit? I just know barnacles are the devil! :) and theyre resolve is hard to overcome! Lol... Thanks guys, gonna start working on it in an hour or so....

If you're trying to remove residue and scraping scratches, depending on how deep they are, you can start with a 220 grit but you will definitely have to move up to a higher grit several times to erase all of the sanding marks. You should end with a high (300-400) grit wet sand followed by a rubbing compound and then sealer wax to bring the full shine back. Work in small areas and dont press too hard.

So 220 would be a good starting point your saying... I just dont want to start sanding and end up in the bilge on the other side  lol....

I'd start with a higher grit (finer), and work my way coarser. I had the same problem, and all I did was wet it with some straight CLR, let it sit 30 seconds or so, then went over it with the scraper again. Here's the before and afters:

That looks nice, here's my before and after with 220 grit, actually took a couple passes there and on the transom, transom still needs some hand sanding but its way better now (not pictured) these pics are the port side outside stern area...

220 is way heavy, I would start with 600 wet then go to 1500-2000, 220 will leave huge scratch marks and you are very likely going to go through the gel coat.

I would try the CLR first, always start with the least harsh and move up, sand paper woudl be the nuclear option here.

Well this was below the waterline and took quite a bit of effort and passes even with the 220 but a quick pass above the waterline and it was to harsh for up top but like I said it was quite difficult to get it off bellow the the cap of the boat... Cant mess with it today because of work n stuff:rolleyes:
But ill get after it again tomorrow and finish and use some lighter paper, im dreading having to block this thing up and climb underneath it... But it needs to be done....
