Personally I dont like the 40's. Too big and ugly! But that engine looks clean. I'm surprised that he went to the trouble of changing the pump and not putting it back together. Makes me wonder if something went wrong. With all the accessories it's not a bad deal. I'd check the compression if you could. Just spin the started with a battery. You can do it with no LU, but ground the plug wires when you do it.

Price is about $200 too high.

He didnt buy a new water pump, be bout a new impeller an threw it in the crappy old housing.

He didn't install it due to lack of time, he probably didn't install it because of broken bolts!

Its actually a pretty nice motor.

I wouldn't buy it. Personally I don't bother with those old motors. Nothing pre 1985 for me. Put the $275 towards a newer 40 and save yourself some grief and gas money!:)

And I was thinking it was too new. Too much crap on it. Get a nice 50's 35hp. Simple, strong and you can fix it with a screwdriver and a wrench or two... No computer crap...
