Would you do it?

I was at the local Marathon station on Memorial Day and I had an employee of the tire store that is attached to the building offer to buy my boat off of me! At first I thought 'he couldn't be serious' so I threw the number of $1500 at him and he seemed to be more than willing to pay that. The reason why I picked $1500 is that's what I have in it, easily, probably more. On the one hand, I could use something a little more fishing friendly, meaning more stability with more storage. Something along the lines of a bass/flats boat. Before you go saying, "just keep what you've got" I want it to be known that my boat is a 1987 that probably needs transom/floor/stringers within a few years. This is my first boat and it wasn't supposed to last me forever. Which brings me back to why I think $1500 would be a good amount to get out of the boat. Canvasing the local craigslist, it seems I might be able to find something as I definately don't want to be boat-less all summer :(. Would you do it?

Yes if you can get what you want out of it and move on to bigger and better things.

If you want to move up, can afford to make it happen, take the money and run. You should be able to find pretty good prices on what you want, and sounds like you are getting the price you need out of the old boat. A lot better than finding what you want, and ending up with 2 boats while you try to sell the old boat. RUN, don't walk.

talk is cheap, if he still wants it and can pay cash up front, not payments, not partial trades, then sell it and move on.

If you can get the $1500 out of it and feel good, do it.

BTW, what little town in Central Florida are you from? I may have heard of it, if it's Wachula!

Re: Would you do it?

Thanks for the advice folks! The reality is I'll only have the $1500 plus maybe a little more (college student). I'll probably look for a 16-18 foot aluminum cause I'm no sure I want another fiberglass, but I'm not ruling it out. Do you guys think I can get into what I want for that kind of money. I do live in florida so there's no lack of boats on the local craigslist.

And btw tilliam, its Avon Park, about 15 minutes west of Wauchula.

I think I'll go back down tomorrow and see if the guy is for real or just playing games. That $1500 would be hard to resist....... :).

You meant east of Wachula, but I knew what you meant. I was a small child, but I am certain I have been through Avon Park once, on the way from Lake Wales to Sebring.

Good luck with the boat!
