Wouldn't it be nice if everyone looked at these forums like a conversation between friends, or even strangers they meet on the dock, or home, or at work, or wherever. Ask a question, receive an answer, then reply back. Even if only to say "Hmmmmm, I'll give it a try."
Nope, many of the people on this forum (mostly newbe's) ask a question, get tons of information and never say a word! Hell, we don't even know if you even look at this forum again, but a week later another question waiting for a reply we must OWE them.
It's called communication guys, and it takes info from both sides

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

As I have been helped by you within the last couple of hours I hope I'm not on your list!:$ I am very gratefull for your advice and the advice I've recieved from others on this forum. I try to show my appreciation when I post or at least acknowlage any replies.

This forum has been a HUGE help to me so far and has a great group of people. I'd like to be able to give back to the forum, but unless you wanna know about HVAC stuff I'm severely outclassed here!

Thanks again iBoats gang!

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

DonS got red dots, DonS got red dots :):).
I got my share last week :).

no worries DonS, the season is almost over and soon it may slowdown enough so I can go fishing again.
but I do agree with Dons, would be nice to know if any of the advice was worthwhile.

Like DonS, I do this for a living and have for the better part of the past 30 years. many schools and training sessions from a lot of places.

my first 3 years as an FC in the USN netted me nothing but electronics courses and various other schools. did not see a ship for over 3 years but it was rumoured we had them.
over the years I have been certified by a lot of manufacture's to perform installations and warrenty repairs.
I post here cause it relives stress even though I am guilty of barking occasionally.
I was medically retired from the USN in 93 and have had my own buisness ever since, only the past 7 years I do contract work for a few marina's in this area.
I mostly get stuff that either their techs cant handle or its fairly complex.
but I enjoy posting here and helping anyone I can. its all in the name of FUN.

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

I completely agree. Althought I have very little to add to most threads when compared to you or the many other techs that post, I often get interested in the situation and await the resolution. Most of the time, just like you said, who knows what happens?? The best threads are the ones that end with "thanks to so and so because this is what it turned out to be and this is how I fixed it". Unfortunately, those are few and far between. As one of the non-tech (but tech inclined!;)) people here, I also feel that we do ourselves a disservice as a whole by not posting the resolutions. It leaves the techs who try to help us out and anyone who reads the thread in the future in the dark. My first situation that brought me to iboats was my rattling 4.3 (you might remember the video) and I made sure to continue the thread until the fix was included. I had searched this site for several days before posting and one of the things I noticed was exactly what this thread is about. It's a shame, really...

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

Here here. Don-s and many others have helped me greatly getting my "classic" 74 Cobalt back up to great running condition.

I suggested among others a "resolution" forum where individuals could just say thanks and summarize thier initial question with the ulimate resolution.

For every fly-bye question and answer there are still dozens that are great to read where a fellow boater gets great advise, thanks his fellow members and contributes in the future to others on his experiences.

At least I do.

Keep it up Don! we luv ya!

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

As NW Redneck said earlier, I too have tried to show my thanks to those who have answered my questions. Although I have not always posted a result to their advice. Mainly because I was not able to get a result as of yet. Running into more problems and such. By the way, Don S, I did finally find a service manual on my '75 Volvo Penta and I am learning alot from it. Thanks to all.

I am guilty of this at times and agree that is should be more conversational or at least an acknoledgement that the advice worked. So in advance, thanks for the help, it does make a huge difference for most of the rookies like me

Don;
Absolutely agree 100%. This website has been a wealth of information. I myself am guilty as well for not replying...I read this site almost every day. I am very grateful for people like yourself and others who have the expertise and ability to help others.
Thanks again;
Joe

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

Just to clarify something guys. I'm not looking for a "Thank You" or a "pat on the back" and I am not all mad and PO'd about it. The lack of replies from the original poster is more of a pet peeve than anything. It has to do with EVERYONE on this board that replies to a posters question.
When you talk (Type) on a forum, act like it's a face to face conversation, or a phone conversation with a friend.

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

I was waiting for a post like this, I'm one who likes to try to say thank to anyone who helped me, again Thanks. But then there's another side of me that likes asking for help, but I got told it's expensive , time consuming and was told to just get a newer boat. Well, life is time consuming, but Might not be expensive if you have patience. So look at the problem that is asked and not their pockets.

Re: Wouldn't It Be Nice !

I find this forum a very helpful tool and appreciate everyones help. I am also guilty for not following up on questions asked and answers recieved, but I will work on that. There are a lot of knowlegable people on this forum and I respect everyone who takes the time to try to help me out. Don S is right, it's a very small price to pay for high quality help.
