Ok so I was going to take the boat out last night, but when i went to turn the key nothing... I tested the battery had a full charge correct voltage... So I test the wire that signals the solenoid to go... nothing. So then I figure I should check the wire before the connector on the wiring harness from the controls to the engine... still nothing. I pull the control apart... took everything off tested the wires there... nothing. then for some reason i figure i should try it one last time before I go in to eat dinner and it worked...

I put the control back together now everything is fine... Could it be the ignition? Because when the starter wasn't turning the choke wasn't working either. and the choke engages when you push the key in.

Re: Wouldnt start

well my 1st thought was the inline fuse near the solenoid. but it is not that. dirty connections? ignition switch?

90% of starter problems are bad connections. remove and clean both ends of the battery cables, so that they are shiney, also the cable from the solenoid to starter. check for nicks in the cables. and make sure the connectors are on the wire good. the cable tend to corrode from the inside out, if nicked, corroded wires, and connections, heat up and cause resistance to the follow of electricity, thus the starter doesn't get enough. you can also take jumper cable pos battery post to large post on starter. with a good connection, the engine should spin. then if the starter is good clean everything and retest. then trouble shoot solenoid. starters can be rebuit at a starter/alternator shop, much cheaper than a new one.

also have the battery load tested at the auto parts store, free, i've had new batteries go bad
