So I went out fishing today and couldn't get my boat going. I put it in the water, primed the bulb but gas seemed to leak out of all three carbs, it started right away. it sputered for about two minutes and then croaked. I tried to start it over and over again. it would try to start but would'nt fire. The starter works fine and it has new gas in it. any suggestions.

also it a merc 1150 around 1975 115 hp.

Please help.

P.s. i pulled the plugs and they had a small bit of carbon on them but had a strong gas smell.

Re: wrecked my day

sounds like you could use an adjustment to your float valves, and maybe a good carb cleaning. check your fuel filter too if you have one.

If your not sure of what your doing, leave the carbs alone. There are marine techs who do work on the side. Theres guys around here that do work for around $60/h, so its not too bad.

First part you should buy is a manual. To do that you need to know the year and not roughly. There are ton of links here. Here some to find your year, take down the serial number, from the very front of the motor, on the part that stay on the transom. Might have to wipe it to see it.
