Wrong Boat Name

I've just finished removing light oxidation from entire boat hull with 3M Cleaner & Wax. The directions said it was for light oxidation. I used a 7" power buffer and the product worked great. I followed it up with a coat of McGuires best wax using the power buffer and the boat looks like new. I left the stern for last because the previous owner had painted on the name of the boat with some kind of spray paint. Can anyone tell me what I might be able to use to remove the old name without damaging the boats original paint finish?

Yo BUCK N DI,<br />If your boat iz fiberglass and we're talking gel-coat, you can try washing it off with acetone, toluene, mek, whatever, without damaging gel-coat. You'll take off all the old wax that's on there, but that's it.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Believe it or not Easy Off Oven cleaner works the best without damaging your finish. Be careful to wear gloves though the stuff will eat you skin. Keep it on for about 15 minutes and then use very light sandpaper to get it all off.

Hey BUCK N DI,<br /><br />Ooops. Ya may a have a problem. Find a place on your boat where you can try several different solvents and see if they removes or harms the original paint or not. If you find a solvent that doesn't attack the finish, then try it on the painted-on name. Lets us know what works and what don't.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty

I'll try the oven cleaner first and if that doesn't work I'll give some different solvents a try. Will post results on here so in the future all will know. Thanks,<br />BUCK
