Alright, so I have had this issue since I bought the boat. I think I'm supposed to have a 1.32 gear ratio on my outdrive, what's on it now is a 1.98. SEI only goes down to a 1.47 and only warranty's their outdrives up to 300hp, I have 330hp 454. My question is it possible to prop around the SEI 1.47 gear ratio?

If it's quite a large boat and not a light go-fast job, yes... So, what size boat?

Word of warning. Heavy boats demand huge torque, and it's that torque that make Alpha drives 'self-disassemble', which is why Merc don't offer an Alpha drive to big engines. If you prop it right and are VERY ginger with the throttle, it should last... Get heavy-handed, and you'll find out why there's no Alpha drive options with BBC....

Your boat is from the era where SeaRay and Mercruiser attempted a BBC in front of an Alpha. Usually the drive met a spectacular end that Chris calls self-disassembly. Fragment grenade is more appropriate

There really should be a Bravo drive behind the BBC

If you look, every once in a while you may find NOS 1.32 gear sets

However the 1.47 are the lowest found today.

A very ginger hand, ease out of the hole, and a rev limiter to cut the motor if the boat ever catches air are all required to keep an alpha alive behind 300+ hp

Ya, I looked into putting a Bravo on it, but its to expensive for how much the boat is worth. Thanks
