Wrong gear ratio update, I may be in luck...

Update to the 'Do I have the wrong gear ratio' post... I might be in luck (dumb?), just found out I have access to an upper with the gears I need, the case is toast (got rear ended on the freeway), but I was told everything in the upper was not damaged, the lower took most of the impact.

My question is, can the innards of one upper be easily swapped out to another, or is there shim issues or other resons why this won't work?

It can be switched, But there are shim and rolling torque settings as well as a whole set of special tools needed. It would be a good idea to have it done by a pro. I am sure resealing would be a part of it. This way you have some sort of guarantee it's right and someone to go to if it isn't.

it's cheaper to buy another upper from SEI if you really need to. I might try propping it and see how it works if you already have a drive that works.
