Wrong impeller for book part number

I picked up a new impeller today. The owners manual and online said 3842786. Now that I have what's left of the original impeller (not much at all) it's obviously smaller than the one I bought, which won't even think about fitting in the housing. It has a part number on it, 3584350, and when I type that in the volvostore, it comes up with 3842786.

Sorry I checked again and it says "not found" for 3584350

07 volvo 3.0l GLP-E
Thoughts?

Those impellers do not just slip into the housing. You have to lube the impeller with the gel that comes with the impeller kit, or use dish liquid, then turn the impeller or the housing (in the direction of normal rotation) while forcing it together.
The 3842786 is the correct impeller. The number on the impeller has nothing to do with the PN on the box and what volvo uses in their parts catalog.

I didn't "Hook You Up" with that site, all I did was give you a link to the MERCRUISER service manual from that site. The original poster has a Volvo that has nothing to do with Mercruiser.

Don, the couple of fins left on mine is what I'm gauging it against and the replacement is much more meaty than that. Are you saying the fins should curl as I twist on the housing?

Yes the vanes will curl over (on one side) that's what makes the pump work. It compresses the vanes almost flat forcing the water out into the system. As the impeller straightnes out on the opposite side, it sucks water into the pump.
It should work fine. Just a little different than the original.

Don you are a real asset to this site, thank you very much. I did squeeze it in there last night and once it was in I got the idea of how it works...then I realized I put it in clockwise from the back :D . Now I've got it in the other way. But again, I really appreciate your help.
