Probably best to talk to IBoats, not us. Best of luck. Rick.

What is the year, make, hp of the engine? The model number would be a big help.

For what it is worth, My 115 Evanrude is a '78 by the serial no. but going into the service manual, my carbs fit the discription of '72 model, Seems like someone swaps parts like I do. Charlie

JG... Sorry for the PM quoting water pump kits but hopefully that info might come in handy some day. My mind apparently was simply locked into water pumps instead of carburetors. I don't know what number carb kit you might have purchased previously but the following might come in handy for future purchases.

Model 35702C (1977 35hp Evinrude) Carb kits would be as follows:

OMC Carb Kit: Original part #387856 superseds up to #396701, includes float. Last known price $29.96.

Sierra Carb Kit: #18-7042 without float. Last known price $12.87.

Sierra Carb Kit: #18-7222 with float. Last known price $16.04

Curious..... The wrong kit you mention, what part number was that one?

Re: wrong/incorrect carb kit from iboats

Maybe im crazy or someone switched carb with a different model (i doubt it) Maybe i dont know what im doing!? here is the link for the carb that matches my model number exactly.

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/BRP/EVINRUDE/1977/35702C 1977/CARBURETOR/parts.html

this carb is very similar, but mine does not have the solenoid at the bottom. the kit that was sent to me had a sheet of very vague instructions with the correct depiction on it. but the parts, with the exception of the needle; seat and float; didnt fit correctly.

the retainer nut for the low speed needle fit into the body of the carb but the needle wouldn't fit into the nut. i drilled it out a little and it went in just fine. the gasket that goes between the bowl and the upper body didnt fit. it was the right shape...but didn't line up correctly. also, the little silver caps (valves covers?) were all to big. i have never removed or replaced these little guys.
-what are they?
-how are they removed?
-what is under them?

thanks iboats.

Re: wrong/incorrect carb kit from iboats

Strange happening, that wrong kit.

Those caps are called core plugs. Removed by carefully tapping the center with a center punch to concave them, then as carefully insert a pointed scribe to pry them off. To install, simply lay them in place and tap them with a hammer and proper size punch.

Under them are fuel/air passageways. One must be carefull not to extend a scribe in too far which might damage the inner surface(s).

Not to bash on iBoats, but I never buy Sierra. I stick with OEM as much as possible. I've had less problems as a result:cool:

iboats should be made aware of the problem, but it really is a Sierra Problem, just possible, the wrong # got put on the bag.
