wrong prop possibly? what to do with it?

I may have just purchased the wrong pitch prop for my motor as I think it is now hitting the rev limiter. The new prop is a 9 1/4 X 10 just like the old one but they redesigned it and I think this new prop is faster to where I can't open it up all the way without hearing a sputtering from the motor. If it is indeed too fast and I need a steeper pitch prop than this brand new one is basically an expensive paper weight cause I'm sure as soon as it touches your motor you can't return it. Does anyone know what I could possibly do? I've only used it once

Ebay or craigslist my friend. And only expect about half of what you paid...

Or keep it on hand as a spare for emergencies.

I was hoping that wouldn't be the answer. Its too bad you can't "try out" a prop. I may just go with a steeper pitch aluminum if I can't use this one. I don't feel like breaking my wallet again. Oh well, Bust Out Another Thousand right?

You may also consider taking it to a prop shop and having it cupped. Cupping usually adds about the equivalent of 2 inches pitch and lowers RPM by about 400. Additionally, it will make the prop "grab" the water better. My experience is on props 10 inches in diameter and up. these smaller props may react differently so research it before doing it.

Yeah I'm looking into how much it will cost to have the pitch changed from 10 to 11 and I will ask about adding the blade cupping. If the cost is most of the price of a new prop than ill probly just get a new one. So the question then will be: currently the 9 1/4 x 10 ss is hitting the rev limiter when the boat has a light load. Could I increase pitch and go to aluminum or would that sacrifice too much acceleration when the boat is under a hevier load?
