Hey everybody,
I have a 1972 Johnson 85hp. After setting my points I may have accidentally put the wrong spark plug leads on the wrong cylinders. Looking at the motor from the back (standing behind the boat) I thought from left to right the spark plug lead order coming from the cap was as follows
Far left (far port side) #2. Next, would be #1, then the coil lead, then #4, then #3. That would be counting counterclockwise from the far left/port side.
I understand the firing order is 1-2-3-4. Top port cylinder = #1. Bottom Starboard = #2. Bottom Port = #3. Top starboard = #4.
I think as long as I have the firing order correct, and knowing that the rotor travels in a circle, then I can put the leads on in a correct order.
Does anybody know if I have that right?
The reason I am asking is because the previous owner had them in a random order (one of the many reasons he could not get the motor to run).
Thanks!
