My boat had a 3 way toggle switch on the dash that had to be switched one way for up and the other for down on the trim . Triggering the trim switch on the gear stick will only click unless you switch the toggle into the up or down position . I traced the wires and found that the center post wire from the switch was ran to the negative post on the battery . The other two wires ran to the solenoids . The wires connected to the post on the solenoids where the wires from the trim motor connected . I tried everything to figure out how to eliminate the stupid switch and just couldn't make it work . Come to find out , the solenoids were for a Merc. engine . I'll have to give the guy credit that made it work , but it just about drove me nuts trying to figure out what the heck was going on . I've since purchased the correct solenoids for my Evinrude from iboats.com . Beats the heck out of me that the guy who wired it new how to make it work . You would think the wire would get hot with it being ran to a direct ground , but it doesn't . Yet if you try to trim it with the toggle switched in the wrong direction , the solenoid will just click and the wires on the switch get hot quick . Crazy !
