I have used nothing but xd-50 but I have been reading that if I use xd-100 I will not need to decarb. Anyone have an opinion on this? I only use about two gallons a year.

The XD-100 was designed specificly for the Ficht engine. It has more detergents. I also remember that you could get the engine recalitbrated if you were using the XD-100 oil snd then you would only be using about 1 gallon a year.

XD100 was not designed for Ficht engines, it was designed for Etecs. You can program an Etec to use XD100 and it will use less. If you use it in a Direct Injection engine of the vintage 2002, it will use just as much XD100 as XD50, which will become quite expensive. Stick with XD50, that engine was designed for it. Besides, D.I.s are dirty machines by their nature. Stick with decarbing, the oiling pump on a D.I. is also not as sophisticated as an Etec, so it will still get gummed with oil deposits. Comparing a D.I. to an Etec is like comparing modern man to a Neanderthal.

Thanks guys, just trying to be lazy and avoid decarb if I could , lots of guy on The Hull Truth and other forums have started running their Fichts with XD-100 and claim that decarbs become unnecessary. Both types of oil are expensive but my 115 only burns a couple of gallons a year anyway. I will probably throw some seafoam in the tank and change the plugs if they get fouled.

If xd 100 was designed for e-tech than you would not have to calibrate the the comp to run it. Its only 3-4 bucks extra a gallon and the "neanderthal" fichts love it !

You shouldn't need to decarb with XD-50 since the label states it has carbon guard already in it, supposedly justifying its ridiculous price. I've been using it since I got my boat but don't see much advantage to it as I still get carbon buildup in my 2000 Ficht. This year I'm switching to Cabela's semi-synthetic made by Lubrication Technologies. Its TCW3 certified (and has been every year that it's been out) so it meets the manufacturers specification for oil. It supposedly has additives that reduce ash and carbon build up too, just like the XD-50 oil. The best part is you can get it for $12/gallon on sale. I'll post the my impression of it at the end of the season.

Alberta is well known to be the Alabama of the North. All the the lunatic fringe right wing parties in Canada usually were formed here including the current federal Riech.

That's for the correction regarding the oils. I thought I remembered it being there prior to the Etec. Me bad. I had already traded my Fucht for an I/O
