Trying to help someone with a windows xp booting problem. When they turn on the computer on it will show a message giving them four choices. Safe boot normal boot etc. Which ever choice the choose the same thing happens. The computer will show lines of text and then shut off and then start back up. Up pops the same four choices. Any Suggestions?

Thanks for the help

Re: XP boot problem

Do you know what the last line says before it reboots itself? Could be a driver issue.

If they have the XP cd, trying booting to it. Go through the steps like your going to reinstall XP. You'll get to a screen that asks if you want to repair or install, choose repair. A dos screen will comeup. Choose #1, then enter the admin account pasword (it may be nothing). Then type chkdsk /P and this check the file sytem.

The boot order could have been changed or its not seeing the hard drive. Go into bios menu and see what it says.If it sees the hard drive it should say so.

Thanks for the help. I replaced the drive and will go after their data by making the bad drive the slave.

Thanks.
