Hey all. I have an 89 150 xr4 with the 16 amp system. I do have a separate 3 prong rectifier and 2 prong regulator. Last trip out I had no tach (would bounce sometimes especially when trimming) or charging. I noticed the rectifier had melting terminals so I replaced that since I read that part can cause these issues. It clearly did need replacement because it was melting but the problem still exists. Regulator now? In my searching I read that if the flywheel is red then its a 40 amp system but my oem mercury manual clearly shows the system as being the 16 amp one. (Even though it says the xr4 should have the 40 amp system) this is season 3 of my rebuild that included ALL new electronics except rectifier and regulator. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!
