Has anyone seen the flapper valve pins making a tear in the Y-pipe?
I had a one inch tear in my Y-pipe and the flapper valves eventually fell of and ended up farther down in the exhaust pipe.
My boat is a Fourwinns Horizon 18 with a 5.0 V8 and a OMC Cobra (Volvo) Outdrive.
The engine has never over heated and the rubber hoses attached to the Y-pipe were intact.
Should I just run the boat without flapper valves?

Pd

Re: Y-pipe failure

Volvo had a service bullentin out in 95 to remove flapper valves, due to several problems with them. However, I do feel safer with working valves.

Pd
