Title pretty much describes it... went to pull the lower unit off and there was 4 holes but only 3 holding it on. I imagine this could cause leaking... Anyway I’d rather buy an actual outboard part to avoid searching in hardware stores and such... my model # is 34320. I looked at a ‘68 Yachtwin schematic on the evinrude website as that’s the oldest it goes. 90% of parts are the same... I found a part I think will work but I’m not positive... if you can offer advise that would be great.
Side note I’m ordering an impeller, a head gasket, and a carb kit tonight.
Heres the link http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx?s1=j8h4q26cm1cq71ihssh8mcj777&catalog_id=0&siteid=1
I put a screen shot circling the picture as I can’t tell what number it says on the diagram

Missing bolt will not cause leaking.----Go to the hardware store to get the bolt for 24 cents.-----Or order the same bolt from dealer for $6.00 , your choice.

Can't say for absolute certain on your 1964, but a 1965 shows two lengths. 308707 is the shorter one (aft), and 309646 is the longer one (fore).

Update: Found a 1964 parts list. Numbers are as I posted above. Note: 309646 has been superseded by 909533.

Here is a lesson on how to search for hardware at your local hardware store. Take a bolt or nut with you. Determine if the hardware needs to be stainless steel, or a specific grade of hardware. Bolts will have markings on the head. Better grade bolts will normally be a blackish color while lesser grades are silver. Most hardware stores have a "try out" card that you can screw the bolt into to determine it's thread size and type. Same deal for nuts. Now go to the bin and pick the length you want. Hex head, slotted, phillips are all various head types. Folks who intend to work on their own equipment really need to take a day (yes -- a day) and simply spend it in the hardware section of a store just looking at stuff. It is amazing what you learn and the ways you can use various hardware/plumbing items to fix stuff. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. TEACH a man to fish and he will never go hungry. So it is with information. Spoon feeding people is a never ending process. Teaching them to help themselves makes them successful at whatever they attempt.

Dang, thats great stuff right there. I sure don't have a problem with doing things myself...
I'm glad this is now a possibility as evinrude hits hard on shipping (8.50 an item!?) I bought a carb kit and an impeller and it came to a total of almost $70!
Looks like a trip to the store will be in order...

Is there a broken bolt still in the exhaust housing ?---Or was the entire bolt simply missing ?

The bolt is missing altogether. I put one in the empty hole it fit perfectly, meaning that (on my motor at least) all four are the same which makes things easy. Someone was messing around in there I think but I cant complain it was free on the side of the road. (i got it running by the way)
