Yahama 225 excel, What is the year

Bought a used Wellcraft Sportsman with an Yamaha 225 excel attached. The boat is a 1984 which can be identified through the serial number but the serial number on the motor does not identify anything for me.
Boat ran well when I sea trialed last year, but the previous owner did not know anthing about changing an impella (he had owned the boat for 4 years). I am ready to start my season ( I know it is late) but I want to change the impella prior to my first trip.
The motor has this information:
VL Excel XF
6K7UL703104
2.6 LITER PRECISION BLEND
EXCEL MICRO COMPUTER IGNITION SYSTEM
V6 EXCEL

An estimation of age is appreciated and range of impellas which will fit this vintage machine.

From what ive found the last letter of the model number indicates the year. The letter f indicates 1989 http://www.marineengine.com/mfr/yamaha_models.html

Thanks for the info, I found that XF was made in 89 so we are in agreement. I now have to start a new post since I have run into a problem as I started to remove the l ower unit

Did you find the bolt hidden under the anode?
Great motor , mine ran for 17 years of tournament bass fishing abuse!

There is a bolt hidden under the anode! guess I am glad I got stuck!

17 Years of tournament fishing equals how many hours. If the hour meter on this boat is corect it has ~500 hrs, what should I expect if I take proper care of the motor?

The v6 yamaha (1985) that was originally on my boat had 1300 hours and was still running. Unfortunately corrosion got the best of it and I opted for a newer yammie.

Thats good news, now I need to get over the hurdle of the lower unit bolts and (shift shaft next year). but is sounds like the effort may be worth it!
